Title: More choice for output format

Hi John,
You know my thoughts on PI. One thing though amongst all the great stuff it does, is that one is very restricted by output format. Everything goes via Surfer and this cost bucks. ImageJ on the other hand does similar stuff and is free. I am thinking of the bulk of my users who have no access to surfer. Most work is currently done by me when in one of my more benevolent moods, and sometimes this can take a while to get out of the way when other demands are high. You are right...we could buy another licence. But maybe PI could be updated to allow for alternative output formats other than surfer?

Hi Malcolm,
There is no need for Surfer. If you prefer, simply calculate all the data types shown here in CalcImage:

and once complete, in addition to Surfer GRD files, you will also have tab delimited text files for every data type. These tab delimited text files can be easily imported into Excel or any other application.  As for images, you can also export a large number of image formats directly from Probe Image as seen here:

I am curious as to what image or data outputs you deem missing?

For the record, data can be imported into ImageJ by exporting the grid from surfer as data, importing into Excel, saving as a .csv then using the XYZDEM plugin from ImageJ. I prefer Surfer myself........
