This version has the contour layer added which seems to add contrast and picks out the zoning more clearly

Shouldn't the color scale be contrast updated also?

In the ideal world....yes...... However, as the colour scale is linked to the underlying map and not the superimposed one, the only way I can change the scale would be to change the colours of the underlying map. Darkness is also related to contour density, itself a measure of compositional rate of change or variability and how one would add this to the colour scale in a meaningful is pretty hard to fathom. See it as art.........
