John Donovan will be running a "Probe Software user meeting" in Australia. The meeting will take place on the 14th of February in Hobart, Australia. The day after the AMAS XIII conference (http://microscopy.org.au/amas/amas13/), which is also held in Hobart, Australia. Make the most out of your trip to Tasmania and participate in both events!

Of course both CAMECA and JEOL probers are welcome AND you don't even have to be a Probe Software user (yet) to participate in the meeting – every prober is welcome!

The meeting will consist of two parts. At the beginning a range of "experienced" probe software users will give short presentations about latest developments and features of the software. In the second part, we will discuss ideas and wishes of users and do some troubleshooting. For that, participants are encouraged to prepare a few slides with things that they want to discuss, which could be problems that they encounter at their instrument, features that they would like to see in the software, ... Most importantly, after each presentation of the meeting, there will be plenty of time for discussion.

I will be giving a presentation at the upcoming JEOL user meeting in Berlin on October 5th on


I will feature the use of advanced background models, aggregate intensities, combined analytical conditions, importance of modern matrix correction methods, quantitative maps, blank correction and more in ProbeforEPMA and ProbeImage (all almost fully automated) as exemplified in my recent project on nitrogen analyses in complex materials.

Dear all,

I attached my powerpoint presentation from the JEOL user meeting in Berlin.

It was a very nice meeting with almost 50 participants from Germany, Netherlands, Belgium and Denmark. The meeting took place at the Natural History Museum and dinner in the evening was held in the "Saurier Saal", the main hall that houses the large dinosaur skeletons. Many good discussions and presentations took place over the two days.

Probe Software will be an exhibitor at the EMAS/IUMAS Workshop on Developments in Microanalysis May 7-11, 2017 in Konstanz, Germany. My vendor talk title will be "Improving EPMA Accuracy, Precision and Increasing Laboratory Productivity with Probe Software"

At the user meeting on Monday, John Donovan will give a short introduction discussing some new features and products by Probe Software. We will then have a few short talks by some of our product experts on specific Probe Software methods and procedures using our Probe for EPMA, Probe Image and CalcImage software applications, for improving analytical accuracy and sensitivity for modern JEOL and Cameca EPMA instruments.

Currently the Monday afternoon user meeting speakers are:  Julien Allaz, Karsten Goemann and Emma Bullock, followed by a general discussion of questions and answers for all present.

We are very pleased to announce that we have three EPMA experts giving tutorial/talks at our Probe Software user meeting at 2:00 to 3:30 Monday afternoon at the QMA 2019 EPMA conference on June 24th (in alphabetical order):

Julien Allaz (ETH Zurich): "Accurate quantitative mapping of minor elements, and beam damage corrections"

Emma Bullock (Carnegie Institution of Science) : "Carbonates in meteorites: a combined WDS, EDS and CL study"

Karsten Goemann (University of Tasmania): "Trace element analysis in minerals using combined EDS-WDS and WDS shared backgrounds"

These will be scientific presentations with an emphasis on practical methods with plenty of opportunity for open discussion. We think everyone in the EPMA community should benefit from these presentations/discussions, so please join us on Monday afternoon at QMA 2019.

Recently, ProbeSoftware had the opportunity to exhibit at the 2019 meeting of the European Microbeam Analysis Society, held at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim, Norway. Anette von der Handt gave a brief presentation (attached here*) on ProbeSoftware's products, and our representatives had a great time interacting with conference attendees.

We thank the organizers of EMAS2019, particularly local hosts Bjørn Eske Sørensen and Kristian Drivenes, for giving us the opportunity to participate in the meeting. Tusen takk!

What a great meeting!  QMA 2019 was perfectly planned and organized, and we wish to thank everyone involved but especially Anette von der Handt who did a fantastic job. As Paul Carpenter said on the last day, he's seen professionally organized meetings that were nowhere near the level of this conference.

I also want to thank our guest speakers at the Probe Software user meeting, Emma Bullock, Karsten Goemann and Julien Allaz.  We had around 50 people at the Probe Software user meeting and there was much information provided and excellent questions discussed during and afterwards.

Julien's talk on using Probe for EPMA, Probe Image and CalcImage for quantitative mapping and beam sensitive samples is attached below (be sure to log in to see attachments).
