Coverage mode of carbon coating

Dear colleagues, could you share with some information about coverage mode of carbon coating. What is better and how the using mode influences on carbon coating density, constancy on large area and similarity of thickness from day by day coating.

For instance we can use:
- impulse/continuous regime;
- long flash with small current or short flash with large current.
- etc.

We are using Q150T with cord which is I suppose "Not a really evaporator".

In my opinion a sputter carbon coater is not worth even trying.  You will never get consistent coatings in my experience.
The only stupid question is the one not asked!

Could you suggest how can we distinguish a really evaporated machine from sputter carbon coater. What short question should I ask to potential supplier (sales manager who usually knows nothing).

Good question.  Here's an example of a real carbon evaporator:

For me, the telltale sign is this statement on their website for the "Evaporation Type" which is a "Bradley type (6.15mm Ø rods)"

But the problem with these smaller devices is that the radius of evaporation should be as large as possible to ensure an even coating thickness over a large area.  The venerable Edwards 306A had a very large vacuum chamber which allowed for a long evaporation radius. Which allowed for an even coating thickness over a 6" area.

now I am arming by 2 questions:
-what type of evaporation realising in the equipment?
-what is the largest area could be covered at the same time. The statemented area should be mentally divided by 2 or even 3.
