Hello everyone,

I am an EPMA technician at the University of Granada (Spain) and we recently installed a JEOL JXA-iSP100 electron probe microanalyzer. I am trying to import analysis positions into the quantitative analysis routine using the "Loads Position Data" button in the stage window of PC-EPMA.

We have a .pos file that was generated on a JXA-8230. The file follows the format documented in the JEOL document "Import Function of Point Table and Image for JXA-8230 & 8530" (2009, JEOL MID SYSTEM-G), using the $XM_AP_ tags:

$XM_AP_NUMBER_OF_DATA 9
$XM_AP_COMMENT%0 Grid 00001x00001
$XM_AP_MEASURE_FLAG%0 1
$XM_AP_ACM_STAGE_POS%0_0 2.9520 -3.6900 11.3114
(etc.)

However, when we try to load this file on our iSP100, the file browser dialog does not display it — it filters for .pos files but this particular file does not appear in the listing, even though it is correctly named with a .pos extension.

We suspect the iSP100 software may use a newer or modified version of the .pos format that includes additional fields not present in the 8230/8530 version.

My questions:

1. Does anyone have experience importing .pos files on a JXA-iSP100 or JXA-iHP200F?

2. Has anyone seen the equivalent "Import Function of Point Table and Image" document for the iSP100/iHP200F models?

3. Are there additional $XM_AP_ tags required by the newer software that are not in the 8230/8530 specification?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I can share the original .pos file and the 8230/8530 format document if needed.

Thank you,

I've just tried on our 8530F and iHP200F. I created an empty test.pos file on each machine, and I'm able to see it via the Load Position Data dialog on either machine.

It'd be unusual for a file browser dialog to be filtering based on the contents within a file - it's usually just a standard windows openFileDialog that filters by file type.

Can you replicate the test above and create an empty test.pos file and see that from within PC-EPMA?
