Plot x-ray maps as XY plots

Hi a question from a user, just looking for recommendations, is this something that PFE/CalcImage or Grapher can do?

" I could try plotting elements against each other on xy scatter plots. The clustering of such plots could indicate the approximate compositions of the phases present within the finely intergrown region. For instance if MgAl2O4 spinel is present, you might see points clustered around that composition, or points leading toward that composition from a more messy cloud of points."

You can do this quite easily in whichever plotting program you prefer.
The [Filename]_Image_Classify.DAT file contains the tabulated version of the quant maps, where each row is a unique pixel with the columns containing the wt% of the elements measured.

I do this regularly in Origin Pro or R, plotting the maps up as XY heatmaps highlights the phases really nicely. It even highlights phases that are below the spatial resolution of the technique, as the elements 'point' to the concentration that the small phase should be, which is quite nice. I think JEOL had an article about this in their newsletter/journal thing.

If clustering, it's also useful to overlay the cluster centroids or averages to see how far off the clustering is (the raw results from K-means (etc) are usually a fair way off).

You can do it in PFE here:

And in CalcImage here:

The only stupid question is the one not asked!

Thanks for these suggestions I'll pass them onto the user. Another example is ImageJ plugins such as https://openresearchsoftware.metajnl.com/articles/10.5334/jors.89
