Thermo Computer and Firewall

We are using the Thermo Computer as host also for Probe Software here. I see no way at all not to have that computer on the network, for updates and for transferring users files. When the Thermo guy was here, it was not on the LAN. Now I have put it on. Thermo left the Firewall for the LAN "off" (this was ok when not wired to LAN, of course). Now, I need to turn the Firewall ON and make exceptions for PS apps. I'm trying to contact the Thermo guys, and ultimately will, but I would be interested to know from those of you who have Thermo on their probes, is the computer firewall on or off, and if on, what exceptions for what Thermo apps you have listed.

John,
The Windows firewall should always be on- if someone clicked "no" when Windows first asked whether to allow NSS though the firewall, it is a bit of a hassle to get it back.  This is documented in bold red color in the Thermo installation document!

See attachment below for the Thermo firewall exceptions on my computer.

Yes, John, I know that. When I got to the bold red colored part of the instructions, I could not proceed because Thermo FSE had left the firewall OFF. Which did not seem an optimal setting (though could be rationalized as they had not hooked it up to the LAN). I have been at other locations where the firewall was OFF and thus exceptions did not have to be made. So I paused. And emailed the FSE (who immediately replied a) factory set to OFF and b) listed which Thermo apps should have exceptions. And before knocking off for the day, thought it might be useful to post something on the forum. No, nothing has been connected, so no "wrong" answers have been given.

Alright, you should be OK then. I wasn't sure what might have happened.

I attached a screenshot of my firewall settings to my previous post, in case that helps.

You have SystemSixSimulation also highlighted there for exception. I assume this is special to you, as I do not see it on my computer. Nor any other app besides TEPortal which sounds like thermo-related.

Yes, the SystemSIXSim.exe is for demo testing, but my Sx100 does have the TEPortalsvr as an exception but nothing else, probably because PFE and Thermo NSS are on the same computer. I'm sure Thermo will help you set this up.
